Notch LC

Anyone have any experience of Notch LC?

You mean for hardware playback like HapQ on touch and all that?

Get a monthly version of assimilate scratch to transcode between ProRes 422 HQ and NotchLC.

I delivered a job with it, kind of annoying. Had to encode out of Adobe Media Encoder. They gave us specs to follow but they ended up being the default.

As far as I know, NotchLC already has a free Adobe plugin, Assimilate and the SGO Mistika series software officially supports NotchLC, so we hope Flame can also support it in the future.

Codec:NotchLC Support

My main question is whether its FP or integer? We are working on sequences for VP wall, source is Red camera.

RTFM

Thanks Phil. Looks to be integer then.

Extensive. We mainly do work for large-format LED walls and blended projection, and NotchLC is the main deliverable codec for the media servers that handle playout. VP, installations, and big conference keynotes all run on NotchLC. I upvoted the feature request — it would be great to have support directly in Flame for both import and export so we could use it to manage deliveries.

I’d be happy to answer any other questions if you run into them.

Thanks Walter, that’s exactly what we are doing, creating content for a VP wall, so have never heard of Notch before this project. As our source material is FP and some of the sky highlights go above 1, I was intrigued as to how the Notch format would handle that.

Notch opened up a whole new world I never knew existed a few years ago. Early days v0.92. Notch is what they use at the Sphere in Las Vegas. I’m not sure which Media Server platform they use for Notch Block playback.. d3 Disguise is the most popular but there are others. Notch feels like those early discreet days. Small, niche company with a killer product. Not a lot of people know about or work with Notch, but if you know, YOU KNOW. They gave it a nice UI refresh with v1.0 and personally I find it more productive than using Unreal’s Motion Design template (which is also getting to be amazing).

Nick Barker has some sick audio reactive Notch work https://www.instagram.com/digitalpunkgfx/

For live work I pull inspiration from Boxcat Studio https://www.instagram.com/boxcat.studio/

while its not a huge deal to encode notch with mediaencoder , for linux flame users i think this would be s good addition, just delivered 15K projection thing with notch
