@ytf - they have been putting out lovely bts movies recently, but it’s equally tragic when you hear the stories of “never being able to break into live action because they were just the puppet people”, never having enough money, being canceled by the production team, etc.
Definitely worth watching if you grew up watching any of the gerry anderson shows, or seeing Derek Meddings’ work in the 007 movies and more.
I’ve been studying miniature making over the past year! Here’s a room I made. I made everything except the wooden furniture (which soon enough I will know how to make as well… but that’s… real real hard)
I think we all take away something different. I’ve always understood the use of forced perspective in the backgrounds, but the fact that they took it into account when creating the physical foreground models was an eye-opener for me.
@BrittCiampa - wow great work!.
Thanks for sharing!
Dude! Amazing!
They did manage to make two seasons of Space 1999, which was live action and Brian Johnsons design for the Eagle transporter (my favourite spaceship design ever) had a direct influence on the Millenium Falcon. It is said George Lucas saw Space 1999 whilst in England and realised the Falcon looked a lot like the Eagle, and had the designers start again. That original Falcon was repurposed and re-worked into the Rebel Blockade runner seen at the start of Star Wars.
Just got back into model making myself last year, and this was the first thing i did…
currently scratchbuilding an XWing, and have a kit of the Eagle to follow that!
One slight tweak needed, the circular thing to the right of the top of TB1 should be a lemon squeezer.
My personal favourite live action series of Gerry’s was UFO.
true - but the scale was wrong for the model. Plus i liked the idea of using parts from a saturn 5 in the launch bay!
Fair enough.
Back in the day, when I was at MPC, we had our own production company and Gerry was on the roster of director’s, he was a absolute pleasure to work with.
heard the same from an editor i knew who worked on Terrahawks.
