The article presents the premise that AI isnāt so bad because people who profit from it say so. Many people who donāt use it are perfectly aware of itās capabilities, yet the article brushes them off as a shadow cabal of ignoramuses scaring AI users into silence.
Before and after that are musings about de-aging, and itās absolutely fucked that Tom Fucking Hanks says, āI can do more roles now cos I can be young again!ā1 We are going moving into a world where Tom Hanks is every male lead, his face slapped on nameless bodies whose entire career is being Tom Hankās body.
I will say, calling the digital resurrection of dead actors āfan serviceā is great. The term was popularized in anime circles to describe such things as panty shots, jiggling boobs, and nudity. So here we are with Ian Holm digitally resurrected in a new Alien film; fan service for a new kind of pervert.
1. I just fucking cant with this. Between eighty year old politicians who wonāt retire and actively work to stymie their younger colleagues, to billionaires more willing to live out their days in an apocalypse bunker than pay their fucking taxes, to the most famous actor in the world saying,āsure, Iād be happy to have my digital likeness crowd out the future of acting for decades past my death,ā there is just so much greed. So much fucking greed. When can it ever be enough for any of these people? They can only hit the āMOREā button, not living life, not enjoying what they have, just hitting the fucking button. I hate it.
If Tom Fucking Hanks can do more roles because heās young again, it means that his royalties will go on forever. Good for him, well done!
VFX slaves people mostly donāt understand āabove the lineā and ābelow the lineā. - āGreat, you got your name in the credit scroll that nobody watches, but you donāt get residualsā¦ā
We can whine all we want, but when we were presented with the opportunity to bargain collectively, most said ānoā.
Itās funny to hear Tom Hanks talking it up after āHereā was just a massive flop.
The re-release will undoubtedly be renamed, āthere, thereā
Ironically, it looks like the word VIDEO with the ID removedā¦
are we averaging a new AI platform a week at this point?
just wait until āagenticā AI becomes the big buzz
Meanwhile, Apple Intelligence has summarized my emails to include āGiant South American Riverā and not āYour order has shippedā
This is the kind of guy who would be your roommate in your 20ās, who in a haze of pot smoke would try to explain what the delivery guy said to him three hours ago regarding a package you are expecting.
Thatās the thing with General AI - itās so smart, we canāt comprehend what it means. Now weāre just the ants at a the bottom of a hill of super smart word salad. We feel honored to have burned our environment up in the service of the AI overlords to ensure their future, one which is beyond our imagination.
Donāt dare you doubt your iPhone and its AAI.

Hi, I just used Google AI studio to teach me how to clean up a plate using 3d tracking and projections. We didnāt get there, but damn, it was a pretty good experience that of course, will only get better.
Donāt forget to be intentional during holidays @andymilkis
Can I ask why?
@andy_dill - because he didnāt have a handy Andyā¦
Because I ā¦have never really known how to do itā¦
Iām working on a shot right now that I know is perfect for projection cleanup, but I just canāt get it to work? Have watched all kinds of YT tuts
Iām socially awkward and will rarely ask for help in public. Iām more likely to wander a store for twenty minutes than ask someone where the toothpaste is, so I understand the desire to ask a machine.
Iām not saying thatās why you used an LLMābut I would like to make clear to everyone reading this that not only will you get a way better answer from the community here, but that asking for help also helps our community.
Weāre here because we like helping.
The LLM is taking tutorials people wrote, abstracting them, getting things wrong, and doesnāt cite sources. It doesnāt know what Flame is, and any projection tutorial is likely an amalgam of multiple tutorials for Maya, Flame, Nuke, After Effects, Cinema 4d, Blender, etcā¦ Those tutorials may be out of date. They may be shit to begin with. There is no way to know because it removes all attribution. There is no comment section to help readers with shortcomings in the tutorial and there is no way to inform the LLM of any issues. And most importantly the saints who took the time to write tutorials arenāt getting credit for their selfless work.1
The LLM only seems good because it rephrases things.
Ted Chiang put it better than I can:
1. I edited this paragraph because my wife said I sounded like a cranky old man.
I often have questions that I think someone I know could answer. But if I ask them that question I would be annoying them. Thatās my social awkwardness? I have no qualms about asking chat GPT that same question because I donāt care if itās annoyed.
Totally. I think we all have that to various degrees, but this is the one place where people love that sort of stuff because questions with easy answers are opportunities for us to share, and the harder questions are puzzles to solve.
The best days on here are the ones with lots of threads starting with āhow do Iā¦.ā
