Speaking Truth

After hearing me complaining from the office while in the kitchen:

“You always seem surprised by this “cut-down” thing. I could have told you it wouldn’t be a cut-down. It’s never a cut-down.”

Hahahaha!

It’s such a linguistic betrayal!

As cynical as I am, I still think …maybe this time…

Hahaha this is a case of the flawed infinite optimism of dearly hoping that just for once, the sensible thing may happen ! I do it with every single thing in my life, and I think it’s because of too many comics as a kid where “justice will prevail” was always the ethos !

I was sitting quietly at my desk many years ago, in an ante room near my first mentor/boss (not just boss). We were in the production office on a feature for an eight week location shoot and he was going through payroll - approving and not approving OT for the crew. While he was quietly working through the timesheets, the most massive Teamster barged through the door and started yelling at the top of his lungs at my boss. Kind of a scary sight, tbh. He must’ve gone on for about five minutes when my boss calmly said one thing to him. The guy’s face turned beet red and he turned around and stormed out the door.

I was amazed. And I asked my boss how he could keep his composure. He looked at me, smiled and said, “Don’t be surprised by what you know.”
