Stacking Dissolves on timeline issue/bug?

When you have a bunch of dissolves stacked in the timeline - apparently its common that flame will have some kind of issue with the layer order.

the workaround is to manually render the segments from the bottom to the top.

I have just experienced this, and i do remeber that I had the same problem before

”If it starts being a bunch of stacked supers needing constant updates or doing a session then I may just dissolve in an action, or comp node.”

Id like to find out if this is a known reported issue and if more people have seen this beign a problem?

On MacOS with 2025.2.3 it is a issue.

I’ve always seen intermittent issues with dissolves since the earliest timelines. The most common is that it fails to clear its render cache when swapping the footage. Sometimes they just go black. In more recent versions I have seen unrendered ones do some really sketchy things like display frames from a completely different part of the timeline, until they are rendered, in which case they are fine.

thanks for the anecdote - yes they seem to just completely loose it !

I’ve always had issues (going back to the earliest of xml imports) with transitions wanting to start from black. I have to delete it and reapply a flame dissolve. This has bitten me many times over the years and I sometimes just go ahead and make an action with a surface transparency animation to avoid it.

When I see an issue I just flush the render and it fixes it.

now imagine you have 600 timelines and you swap a graphic using connected conform thats in 400 of these edits

now randomly during rendertime it will crap out,

so you have to QC 400 edits for render issues.

see why this workaround isnt a solution to the problem? xD

This is why as soon as I see one transition has an issue… I switch to action transparency and sync everything using that method. You just have to manually delete all the transition effects. Hopefully I’ve caught it before the edits start multiplying.

jup, but the W is if this is a known issue for years.

why  such a basic thing.

I think it goes back to the fact that it comes from xml/aaf conform. The dev team would probably say ‘send us the files’ to investigate. But it’s so random for me that I can never repeat it consistently.

in my case nothing came from a xml, this is all motiondesign stuff on the timeline made in flame

For me, the inability to clear the cache seems to come randomly with no history of an xml/aaf. The crazy shit tends to come from aafs. I also get crazy shit in the layers below when there is an action effect from xml/aaf.

Report the issue to the support department. When they’ll have identified the steps to reproduce the problem we will do our best to fix it.
