šŸ”„ Today on Logik Live: Our Favorite Matchbox Shaders, Part 1 šŸ”„

I’ve haven’t done this before, but it seems to work:

I’ve saved mine into the user bin, which you can export.

So here is a preset with the two MG nodes that are linked for inversion of the Exposure. Download the file, unzip it into a folder. Then go to the User Bin, click Load. When it asks you if you want to clear your bin first click ā€˜Cancel’ (yes, misleading label - should say ā€˜No’), in the file selection go to the folder where you unzipped the preset, select ā€˜None’ and it will add it to your user bin.

Definitely don’t click ok on the prompt about clearing your bin or there will be tears…

I need to give this a try but what about inverting the picture and using a mimic linked look node.

The look node is exactly the same but the picture has been inverted which you then swap back after the look node :hugs:

Ooh the fun possibilities.

** edit ** as I think this through some more in my head I can see some flaws

Maybe one or 2 . . . But it reminds me of the very early days (long before expressions) when we would invert a stabilization (only x and y position back then) by flip-flopping the image and then run it through the same stabilizer setup again, then flip-flop it back. This was also pre-batch.

This was a very good episode.

This type of logik live works very well for me. Seeing something that you might have done 100’s of times before but being given a special twist.

Removed magenta spill from original, but result didn’t change. What to do after Additive Key? Doing it before causes cracking effect.

I think the magenta is coming from the graphic you have behind the phone. Does the spill color change if you change the color of the graphic?

It worked, but I got a cracked result, though I think it’s due to a print from the live stream

@Sinan thanks for the tips with fluid - could have done with that a few years ago on a job instead of onion skinning my own paint.

I have used Advect before to tweak smoke but your way with the UV was much better!

@andy_dill pleasure treasure, as always. I did not know about the dropper thing interacting with the waveform - that’s gold. I usually jump into colour warper for that but not now.

Damn chaps - that was incredible! So many quick and simple techniques that would have saved me hours of work had i known these were possible.
Definitely a show to rewatch multiple times

Here’s the zip for the Fluid and Advect batch setup. 2024.2. I added some notes, but ping me here or on Discord if you have any questions.

Thanks for a great episode, lots of neat tips and tricks!

At the 8min mark there is mention of a ā€œperspective grid stabilizer trickā€ - does anyone know where I can find it?

I’d love to add another stabilization technique to the ol’ toolbox, and as a fan of the perspective grid my interest is piqued to an almost worrying level. :hushed: :hospital:

Anyways, can’t wait for to part two!

God bless Grant…

If this is what you’re looking for the steps are…

Track with the Perspective Grid.

Convert the transform mode to 2D and invert that so it’s stabilised.

Paint - Clean Up - Comp - Whatever.

Duplicate your original action node, connect it up, and turn off invert.

Comp what you’ve cleaned up over your original plate.

Shameless plug…I also had an advanced Perspective Grid masterclass at NAB 2024. It’s available to buy/rent/subscribe on Logik Academy Pro.

Ah cool,
I’ll have to look into this for sure!

Thanks for letting me know!

@Sinan: I revamping my HiPass setup and I want to include Lumps, but I can’t get them to work. I’ve simply taken an image, broken it out into 3 passes, then recombined them, but the final looks like I’ve simply taken a blur pass and combined it with the original using Max/Lighten. Any pointers?

@ytf I’ve come accross this. Is your source image 8 bits? Elevate to 10/12 bits with a color management node and try again.

Big thumbs up. It’s like the only piece of 8bit footage I own. Thanks.

For those of you curious to understand how the fluid matchbox works. The tutorial is written by Karl Sims, original developer of the Sapphires.
