Type - where is centre and why is opacity the wrong way around!

I looked in the manual before anyone asks. I select a layer thats centred. I type in the box. the text is justified to the left. I cant seem to be able to select all the type and centre it in the box. Im sure it’s super simple and ive missed it. but how does one do it.

Also you used to be able to set the typing limits - so you set the size of the box and type automatically stays within it as you type

Also why is opacity full at 100% the opposite of ever other node in flame.

Also where is block shadow - like a subtitle. without being in subtitle.

im loving the better quality text but finding the features a bit lacking

There are about 7 or 8 uses of Transparency and Opacity scattered through the software. 100% Opacity=0% transparency. Not all of the uses follow this logic although the last node I recall that did not was the old-skool gmask, but my memory of that may be wrong.

ignore me I found everything I was looking for!

I can’t help with Transparency vs Opacity but I will answer the other questions in case anyone else comes across this thread.

I cant seem to be able to select all the type and centre it in the box

Under Attributes towards the right there is “Paragraph” controls. Choose centered, left, right, justified here.

Also there’s a lot going with Axis options now. There is a layer axis, a paragraph axis, and each character has an axis.

You can quickly change the layer axis’ center with the drop down that shows 9 different options - Top Left, Top Center, etc. etc.

Each Character axis starts off at the bottom left. You can move that centering wherever you want, or you can hit “centre axis” under the character settings and it will find the center of each character you have selected.

set the size of the box and type automatically stays within it as you type

When you first create a layer, the bounding box will expand as you type. If you enter a number in the Layer Width setting, it will then stay that size and the text will start to word wrap down.

Also a cool new feature - You can right click a layer and choose “Fit Layer Box to Characters” and it will snap the layer width to your text. Note that when you do this it reverts back to expanding the box as you type.

where is block shadow - like a subtitle.

You can create a Background under the Background tab by selecting “Active”

Also - cool new feature - you can make the background rounded with the Radius setting:

You should write the manual. Nice explanation.

Ive been using the old type tool for 30 years ! So it will take me a while!

Yeah me too and rest assure you wont go back to it after a couple of hours with TYPE.

I’m scoping out an upgrade in the next few weeks. It seems so basic, but it’s the big thing I’m looking forward to.
