Working with Start Frame in Batch

Just upgraded to 2025 today and have been looking forward to working with the start frame functionality…

I have my batch start frame set to 1001.

When I import a clip which has a start frame of 1011, I was expecting it to magically set it’s offset to 10 (like Nuke does).

That doesn’t seem to happen though.

But is there not a button to set the offsets to align, or even a way to view the imported clips start frame after import?

I also notice that T-clicking an imported clip from the write node doesn’t set the write node to the clips start frame but instead to the batch start frame.

Am I missing something or has all this obvious stuff been overlooked by design?

Hey Leo, if you highlight your clip and hit Use Start Frame in the Timing tab it should automatically set the offsets to align. Hopefully that helps, I’m not sure if there is a way to do it on import.

Hey there @leovfx - sorry you’re having trouble with Start Frame. I know that since I made the Start Frame video ~2 years ago, a handful of things have changed and shifted around a bit. The main issue is that there are so many workflows and use-cases out there that it’s tough to cover all of them.

As @aPats mentioned, it sounds like what he described is exactly what you’re looking for.

If you alt+click a clip in the Media Panel, Start Frame is one of the default metadata visible in that menu there on the bottom left.

In terms of overlooked vs not overlooked, it sounds like that Use Start Frame button is the latest and greatest solution, but what you’re describing does sound like a solid feature request. It might boil down to a Flame philosophy question of the development team not wanting to confuse users by having something automatically offset when the average user is used to the current behavior of nothing ever being offset when a clip is dragged into / imported into Batch, but an optional preference could be a nice compromise if that is the case.

Thanks both. This button in timing is good for now.

It would be great if this was implemented as either a preference or option on import.

I’ve added a request.
