Action: Soft matte into action gives a sharp edge result

Hey all!

I have a strange problem I can’t seem to fix.

I’m using action to comp a few plates together and I have a gmask tracer outside of action where the masks are feathered. When I look at the result from action all masks are sharp.

It was working fine until I separated the layers in z in the axis nodes, I think this is when the sharp edges appeared. I’m not super well versed in action so I don’t know why this is or how I can fix it. I know there’s a similar problem when using 3d shapes as masks and you have to click a button so the shape knows it’s supposed to be feathered, but I can’t find such a button for regular surfaces.

It does not seem to be a premult problem, when I change the premult setting I get super bright edges, but they’re still sharp.

Any ideas on how to fix this? I’m starting to go a bit crazy haha.

Cheers!

Check that Z buffer is off in action (or that your layers are correctly sorted in z-space). If you ever get weirdness in action, it’s usually either this or the z depth on the camera.

OMG, it was the sorting!

I had recently added a new background plate and it was at the top of the “layer stack”. Moved it to the bottom and it looks correct now. I can’t believe I didn’t check that… Thanks for the help!
