Arri HDE encoding

Any one have any experience with this? Can Flame read it directly or does it need to be decoded first?

@ytf - I have some older .arx files from the arri website and they work just fine in flame 2025.

The HDE encoded files that present as mxf should also be fine but I’m not sure if I have downloaded any - I’ll take a look.

I don’t have a Mac (from this decade) so I cannot try the HDE encoder software, but I suspect that it works fine.

Take a look on the ARRI website for examples and test in your version of flame.

I’m on Rocky 2024. something.

There is some Alexa 35 HDE material available for download

I just tried both Alexa 35 and Alexa mini LF HDE files.
They both work in 2025, but I would definitely recommend transcoding to a more manageable file type.

This is great. Thanks.

For the record, it’s fine. I don’t think I would have even known there was a difference. In fact, I’ve probably used it already and didn’t even know it. Thanks for the help @philm

I just opened one of the HDE files from ARRI on 2024.2.2 with no problem.

@ytf - thanks for confirming that it works in 2024.
I don’t know exactly when the ARRI SDK included HDE, but here are the flame software updates from recent times:
