Autodesk tokens / Flex

Couldnt agree more.

Brings up another question - it wasn’t until this thread that I knew how to log out… (or at least I think)

When I start Flame (Linux or Mac) it takes me to the browser, which remembers my credentials and I just have to click ‘Go To Product’. Then Flame runs. And when you’re done you ‘Exit Flame’.

Turns out in the bottom right corner of the Flame UI there is a dropdown that reveals a ‘Quit and Sign-Out’. I guess that’s it? This is the first time in two years of using Flame that I looked inside that dropdown menu. You really have no reason to do so for the most part.

The browser window after a while just changes to

If they’re so keen on you to log out of your system, then should put a big

LOGOUT NOW TO AVOID ADSK FROM CALLING AND ACCUSING YOU OF THEFT

button in the same place you logged in and also in place of the prominent Exit button. Basic usability suggestion. You want to drive certain behaviors, make it easy to do.

You likely had a Smoke Premium / Flame Premium package deal. That was deprecated if memory serves me right.

Standalone Flame Assist and Flare are very much still supported and available via resellers. You just have to pay for them.

We recently got stung like this too. I was logged in at work and at home, they thought we were sharing our license when it was just me. They really need to up their game with licenses, if you’re logged in on one machine, you shouldn’t be able to log into another until you log out.

@fredwarren Seems like something that needs to be looked into further?

That is exactly how it does work for us. What version of flame are you on?

I’m seeing this on 2024 releases.

It seems that short of the Adobe solution, the correct behavior would be that the ‘Exit Flame’ button should automatically sign you out, not just exit Flame. That way the license is released and you don’t risk leaving a dangling chad.

Of course a bit more painful as then you have to sign in every time you start Flame. But in the age of password managers, that is pretty much standard for many apps.

If you require a release of the license before use elsewhere you also need a mechanism to force a release remotely. Systems and apps crash. Adobe does this pretty well. Avid bungled it for a long time. Boris allows you once forced reset per month.

You don’t want to be at work and have forgotten to sign out at home unless you have remote access or reasonable force logout. Or your commute just doubled.

This is a matter outside of the Flame development. You should contact the support team for this as we have no say on what’s going on there.

2022 and 2023

The License Police did say they’d have a “system in 2024.” I did specifically ask him why Autodesk wasn’t doing license checks like Adobe.
