Black borders around imported mp4

Hello forum

for training purposes I am trying to import an Autodesk Tutorial(mp4) to my clip
in a Sequences-reel. As long the mp4 stays in it’s own Reel everything looks fine
as well when it is beeing replayed(Alt+1) .

But as soon the whole mp4 is dropped from a reel inbetween segments of
the clip, black borders are “added” around each side of each frame of the
imported mp4.
The same if only some frames of a Source timeline (set in-point and set oui-oint)
are inserted between the segments of the clip.

Question:
What am I doing wrong?

Thank’s a lot in advance for your help!

Joe

PS:

Autodesk mp4-Tutorial (1152 x 720 @8-bit, 30 frames):
Rightclick → Reformat shows: HD1080 16:9, Letterbox, 1920x1080, Set to 16.9, Ratio 1.778, 8-bit, 23.976fps)

My Clip:
2048 - 3072 @ 8bit, 23.976 fps (P) / still duration (actually per shot/Tiff: 00:00:02+08)
Rightclick → Reformat shows: HD1080 16:9, Letterbox, 1920x1080, Set to 16.9, Ratio 1.778, 8-bit, 23.976fps)

select the resize button, then click Crop Boxjust below and to the left -switches to Resizing. The box next on the right has various resizing options - try picking those to see which works best

i don’t think 1152x720 scales equally to 1920x1080. Letterbox tends to scale equally until one dimension hits the limits of the resolution your scaling to. Hence you have the added black.
Other Resize options will allow you to scale it to fit.

Thank you very much Lightningad for the helpful feedback! It work’s but I have to play more with that feature… still struggling with alignment of the top borders of the mp4 and my footage
