Hi everyone,
I’m having an issue getting a 4K preview signal out of Flame, and I’m hoping someone here has encountered this before.
The Problem:
My Decklink 4K Mini Monitor works perfectly for FHD (1920x1080 @ 23.97~30p) previews. However, when I switch to 4K-UHD (3840x2160 @ 23.98~30p) in Flame, the preview monitor goes black/no signal.
The Twist:
The hardware seems fine because Blackmagic Media Express displays the 4K-UHD signal perfectly on the same monitor. The issue seems specific to Flame.
My Setup:
I’ve verified the Project Settings and Broadcast Monitor settings in Flame, but only FHD seems to trigger the output. Does anyone know if there’s a specific config file tweak or a known compatibility issue with this driver/DKU combination on Rocky 9.5?
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
In the Setup utility page with the list of all the resolutions that you check to enable (embedded 3rd in your post), at the bottom there is a Preview Device popup. Yours is set to Aja when it should probably be BMD. I had the same issue setting up BMD video on a Mac for the first time last month, and @ManChicken was kind enough to point this out to me repeatedly over on Discord.
The Setup application shows the right settings. The dropping at the bottom of the page showing AJA is not an issue: this dropdown is used to set the Preview device but as we can see all timings are set to BMD so this is fine.
We never had tried this card. According to Blackmagic Design all PCI / Thunderbolt cards should work with the driver we we have not tested all cards. This is why we list on our web site the cards we have validated.
Are you able to select other 4K timing to see if the display will show the output of Flame?
Hello,
Thank you for your reply.
Currently in Flame > Preferences > Video Monitoring > Video Preview Format, the 2160 resolution timings (23.98p, 24p, 25p, 29.97p, and 30p) can all be selected without any issue. However, none of these timings produce any output on the display.
So although the settings can be applied, no 4K preview signal is being sent to the monitor.
Please let me know if there are any additional tests or settings you would like me to check.
Thank you.
What monitor/display are you using?
Hard to say why this is not working and since we do not have this model we cannot validate. Not sure what you should do next.
Hello everyone,
I was able to find the cause of the UHD output issue.
The problem turned out to be the monitor. Although the monitor supports 4K UHD resolution, it is a product from a smaller manufacturer, and it seems that the timing was not fully compatible with the DeckLink Mini Monitor 4K, which is why no image was displayed.
When I tested with another monitor with similar specifications, the UHD output worked normally.
It seems that when purchasing a monitor in the future, it will be important to carefully check timing compatibility as well, not just the resolution.
Thank you again to everyone who took the time to reply and help.
Thanks for the update! Happy to hard the card works as expected in our products.
