Embroidered type effect

Hello, any nifty tricks for creating an embroidered/stitched looking text effect in Flame? Something like this:

I tried some substance noise to make a texture/bevel emboss/shadowing but it’s just not singing for me.

Want to make sure I’m not missing something obvious before doing it in Photoshop.

Thanks,
Jamie

Font typed out, textured how you want in stylize node, then Bump and Displace node.

@dhoffmeyer had a setup for this that he showed off at a UG a few years back. I’ve attached it to this post…hope he doesn’t mind! embroidery_dh.zip (828.9 KB)

Awesome, I’m going to check this out. Thanks Brian and Deron!

The displacement step in action was the technique used for the end tag for the following Amex circa 1995 To achieve the “grow” there was a reverse shrink animation upstream to get the icon for the displacement. Perhaps a fabric texture that was displaced and then color corrected with matte output from the displacement action.

Yo @dhoffmeyer, would you be opposed to me submitting this to the Logik Portal for ya? Any other details you’d like for me to include?

No problem at all Randy. Thanks! Submit and share away. I built this about 7 years ago for a client who ended up going in a completely different direction. I haven’t really looked at it in a long time, but I did use it as part of my NAB demo in 2014 on one of the days. I LOVE the stylize node and it has proven to be one of the most creative tools in Flame that I keep coming back to. Enjoy and Happy 2021 to all!
