I’m trying to add some fonts to 2027, I’ve copied over folders from 2025, containing house fonts, but flame has been sitting on EDITDESK: initialising for over 6 hours now. I did exactly the same on a box with 2027.1 and it resolved after around an hour. Any suggestions, (can’t install 2027.1 for various reasons)
Sorry Paul. Not sure. I’m going to ask the obvious: as a workaround is it not possible to hold the fonts in a central place and add an alias to the font directory?
Well, I left it overnight and it’s now up, with all fonts installed, @fredwarren, is this normal that it should take so long?
Still hanging on EDITDESK error, so I’ve now deleted all the added fonts
Some wild guesses:
Is it possible that one of the fonts copied across was corrupt and stopped progress?
From memory Flame generates font proxies (the .p files) so does Flame have permission to write to where you added the fonts?
Is there a font that is incompatible with Flame that it is getting hung on?
Suggestion, I’d try adding fonts in a small batch at a time. If an initial small batch fails then something else is going on. If the first few batches of don’t copies work then you hang on one batch, delete those and keep adding smaller batches until you can work out the font or file that seems to be triggering the hang.
All this is theoretical though, haven’t experienced this issue before myself.
Its the same bunch of fonts that I loaded onto a 2027.1 flame, that starts fine.
You don’t even need to alias or symlink a central folder anymore. Just point your sysconfig.cfg at the font folder and all software versions will use the same central location.
Paul - How many fonts are we talking about? If it’s in the 1,000s you should pair it down. If its less than that you have a bad file somewhere.
Bryan, not sure how many, but certainly not in the1000’s. But as I pointed out, copying them to 2027.1 works ok, it just seems to be an issue with 2027.

I think this is probably a case for support, but I what I would try is to create a new project and see if you still have the problem as I’m not totally sure that a font problem would make Flame hang at Editdesk Initialising.
