@ALan - 10x - classic - almost like a country club membership…
Browsing the documentation for the new version of RGS, it seems they have improved and added NOTHING in the past 4 years other than OS compatibility. Not a single new feature, performance enhancement, nothing. WTF did they purchase Teradici.
HP buying irrelevant and unusable technology?

and the Humane pin.
big talk != big action
for hosting? yea macs aint supported just as clients , we only used RGS on linux, just on a bunch of rando machines not HP specific hardware.
Vibe code that shit. Seriously. I’m calling mine Teragucci.
I had Claude Code search these forums for all of @ALan 's gripes on HP Anyware, Teragucci, Stonefs, Backburner Server, Burn, Backburner Manager, Managed Media, distributed computing, electric vehicles, nvme prices, DIY NAS solutions, power consumption reduction strategies, and even a few tips and tricks on increased fiber usage on Fridays.
I don’t know what Claude is building, but once I get off the train I’ll let you know.
HP fed code from Teradici and RGS into CoPilot. It gave them a frowny on Teradici, so they went with RGS. All the humans that could have fixed Teradici had already been made redundant…
PS: always read the EULA fineprint. Apparently MSFT has a PR storm coming since the lawyers wrote into the EULA that Copilot is intended for ‘entertainment purposes only’, and even Nadella selling Copilot as the answer to everything forgot to read it… LOL.
What’s wrong with Amazon DCV? Plenty of studios use it already on-premises or in AWS.
I see it works on cloud servers but not finding a way to install it on our local servers to host. We are not running on the cloud. We need a host that will operate on local based Linux, Mac and PC machines. I may have just not found that option for DVC yet.
I have successfully used RealVNC for remote access to local Linux boxes. With two caveats: It does handle tablets, but not sure about other control surfaces. And you do need physical monitors attached, which will be shared, it does not support virtual displays. Also in my use, I have not tested audio, so have no information on audio sync.
I wouldn’t stress about it too much. Here’s an early prototype running on a Rocky Linux ADSK 9.3 kickstart, sans GPU.
Audio works it’s just not in the screen cap. Kids aren’t up yet.
Holy shit, that’s awesome.
Don’t forget to vibe code some kind of frustratingly archaic licensing scheme…
I tried, honestly, and Claude Code gave me an error message…

In all honesty, picture quality is its biggest letdown. Yes it does 4:4:4, but the compression artifacting is much more noticeable than in PCoIP. Setup is also difficult, but could be forgiven if the former were top quality. It does have plenty of pros, though. USB device connectivity is better than HP Anyware, and so is audio support.
hey @marcwellington can you share those embedded links?

“Here is our official answer in regards to RGS
HP Remote Graphic Software (RGS) / HP Remote Boost is not part of this end-of-life
announcement. HP RGS is a potential transition option for HP Anyware customers, specifically:
-
Power user or high-performance requirements.
-
Accessing racked or desktop workstations.
-
If a broker is required, consider HP partner Leostream.
-
Additional information is available at hp.com/go/rgs.
-
Suitability depends on individual customer environments and use cases. Existing
-
HP Anyware Pro licenses continue to support the latest versions of HP RGS; customers should
-
test RGS to confirm suitability.
-
HP sales and support teams are available to discuss transition considerations and provide
-
product information where applicable.
For customers where HP RGS / Remote Boost is not a fit:
- Customers for whom HP RGS is not an appropriate fit will need to evaluate and select an
alternative solution that best meets their business and technical requirements.
- Customers are responsible for assessing alternatives based on their own requirements and
timelines. (edited) “
