PSD Files Not working

I’m working with some .psd files what were originally stored as psb files. I’ve resaved them as psd files for loading into flame. When loading into action they only come in as one axis, no layers, just one axis.

How do they appear when viewed through the media hub?

If I pull then into Media Panel I get the separate layers.

Not sure then why they don’t like action import. I am not using that feature too often. Too many heavy psd’s these days for that to work efficiently for me.

I often have a CMYK issue but if media hub likes them it must be something else

Working fine for me on 2025.2.1

There are certain parameters in a psb that can’t be saved in a psd. I’m curious what happens if you flatten the psb before you bring it into action. Obviously your ability to use the layers is lost, but if might start giving you some clues as to which parts of the psb are not convertable. There may be a rogue layer in the psb that causes the problem

ok I’ll be that guy. what the f is a psb file?

It’s a photoshop file that’s larger than 2 gigs. I’m not a bit-dweeb, so I can’t give you the technical answer, but in a nutshell, the .psd was limited to 2 gigs. To get around this, when the future actually evolved into the present, Adobe created the psb, which is like a psd, but bigger, rather than rebuild the architecture of a psd. Like 256k of ram in a PC. “why would we need more?”
It’s actually very common in print media. When I used to do photo work, I often had psb’s in the 10 gig range.

AFAIK, Flame can’t open a psb, or at least never used to be able to, I haven’t had one for many years now.

It still can’t. I’ve only had to deal with them recently in Flame. They were embedded as smart objects in a large psd. I often get illustrator files the same way. I’ve re-saved them as psds and used them without issue, although I usually don’t load them into action. A quick check the other day, confirmed that it is possible.

Here’s a link for one file. Couldn’t get it to work in action after converting to .psd, Flame 2025.5

I hate to say it, but I had no trouble loading this after re-saving as a psd. The one thing I did notice was that the vector art was created in illustrator as CMYK, but that shouldn’t be an issue because the psd was RGB and is most likely converts the smart object upon import. Nice paper texture. I’d steal it if it wasn’t Getty.
v. 2025.2.1 on Linux

I hate you to say it too.
All I did was resave as .psd.
Go into Batch, add an action, import .psd.
Only seeing 1 axis.
No layers

Did you turn off maximize compatibility?
Did you also turn off embed color profile?

I turned off neither. I followed the exact same steps you did. I even tried it with the different conversion operations. And I tried it with both 2024 and 2025 Photoshop.

Will have to continue to investigate. Thanks @ytf
Apparently my problem is more extreme, I can’t load any layers into Flame. Guess I need to get support involved.

I made an archive of the action with it loaded

Thank you. I’ll take a look.
I can open other original .psd files. I’m thinking there is something going on with the saving of these files in the storage we’re using. I’ll let you know what I find.

definitely an in house IT issue. Thanks for the help.
