Quickest way to add a slate on timeline

Hi All,

Often i have to add a slate to a lot VFX shots that i have completed. So my goto is to have the single frame slate in a folder and drag it and insert it before the 1st frame which then adds the metadata of the said clip! Annoyingly you have to change the date manually which i find really tedious althogh its easy to do on the master slate if you remember which i often don’t because im 52. I reckon if i added it up I’ve spent weeks of my life repeating the same process. Do you all do this my way or a differnt way. Could there ever be a bit of python scripting that someone a lot more clever than me could write that would allow a slate to be on the end of a button click. I’m curious to know if any of you have a wizadry tip for this.
Many thanks as usual. M

Im gonna be invetigating this when i get home. Could be the answer.

If this is for shot based work, I always do this in a batch setup, along with the QT setup with show cube and shot cc file, all contained inside a handy compass which I drag out from my project bin.

My slating needs are a little different, but I have a pre-built slate template made from layers of Burn-In metadata gap effects. Most of the layers are connected segments, so when I adjust one, such as the date, it ripples through all of them. The content of the text is tied to <segment name> so that I don’t need to open up the metadata dialogue to change it. I just change the name of the segment.
