Silhouette RoundTrip Script

In an effort to get our team away from using SammieRoto RoundTrip, I made a similar set of scripts that uses the Standalone version of Silhouette.

There’s a demo below, but here are the highlights:

  1. In Batch, right-click a clip and look for Silhouette RoundTrip → Open in Silhouette. If a batch clip has media on the server, it’ll use that vs exporting something new, so it opens faster.
  2. Next, it’ll open Silhouette. Import the media. Create a session. Set the Input Colorspace and View Transform according the batch clip’s colourspace and the flame projects OCIO config. Then it creates the nodes (Mask ML, Matte Assist ML, Matte Refine ML, and the Output). The Output node is configured to render the alpha as a DWAA exr sequence into the shot folder.
  3. You make the matte in Mask ML. The next two nodes you can typically ignore.
  4. You render. Either with Ctrl + R or selecting the Output node and scrolling down to the Render button.
  5. It typically jumps back to Flame when the render is done, but you should Alt + Tab back to Silhouette to save and quit Silhouette to save VRAM.
  6. Back in Flame, you right-click the clip you originally selected and look for Silhouette RoundTrip → Import Results.

I’m interested in the OFX workflow myself.

If only silhouette adopted an alembic or FBX workflow we’d be done with this workaround on workaround on workaround.

I like how responsive BorisFX are and am very pleased to see the inclusion of GMask Tracer workflows since our conversations earlier this year.

Talking of which, and if you;re listeninng: We require a batch group PyClip to Silhouette to 3d head track to 3d alembic workflow (with eyes and teeth).

I am also greatly looking forward to including @samhodge_aiml in our future workflows and his shockingly deep and comprehensive approach to roto.

There are some deep thinkers among us.

I was looking at a C++ or Pythonic way to make a flame native animated spline from a JSON data structure of B-Spline information of animated fixed knot count. I was wondering if someone had a contact at Autodesk headquarters about how I can make this happen, currently the round trip via Silhouette is mint, but somehow that seems like an extra step when I should be able to just hit a button in Flame and have it appear as a Flame native data structure.
