Hello. Does anyone know of a tool (MX or Sapphire?) that could generate poor man’s particles – like a burst of pixie dust – based on the luma of a matte? Or another way to hack this without having to dive into particle land?
Much appreciated.

Really, just white points is all I need, then I’ll tweak downstream.
GPM,
Not at the box at the moment. But I remember there being a crowd flash matchbox in Logik. Maybe that can help.
Heya Brooks! Thanks - I did think of that, however the flashes remain static in position – not moving out in x/y/z…
Atomize in Action?
From what I hear about the 2027 release, it sounds like atomize would be a good candidate. But we can’t install a new version right now in production. Looking forward to exploring it.
Actually Atomize is a terrible suggestion anyway
as you need something more random.
Depending on how “poor” you wanna go, crok_diffuse is an easy way of scattering some pixels about. Similarly the Deform node. Crank up the octaves and play with the scale on the different transform controls.
Maybe Diffuse with some displacement…
Tell me what you need. I’ll make you a particle system that’s easy to use and modify. Then we can share it in the Portal for all.
Oh wow, that’s very generous of you, Sinan.
It’s actually now no longer a need for this job, but it is something that comes up somewhat often (especially if your client is Mickey Mouse and they like lots of Disney sparkles).
I could get you a shot, share my temp batch setup so you can see what I was going for, if you’d like?
Thanks so much!
Of course. Would love to help out. DM me with your setup.

Here’s some particles I built a while ago for a Disney inspired advert - feel free to use, modify etc.
Hey, thank you very much, John!
We’re in intense delivery for the next week or so, but I will definitely dig into this when the dust clears.
Thanks again.
