I want a feature removed

Clickbait title - I know

HOWEVER
unless there is a better way on every flame version? or machine install? i need to manually set every broadcast resolution to freesync

is ANYONE running anything DTV Sync? isnt this 90s tech? am I missing something? should that whole DTVsync stuff just be removed/

I mean at the very least should it not be set to freesync by default?

no? yes?

@finn - Broadcasters may use these features, particularly if they have large flame deployments, particularly if connected to real time broadcasting, or graphics departments in outside broadcast trucks.
There’s usually a flame or 8 involved in fringe activities like the Olympics and big sports events.

@finn - true, but also write a script to change it?
I think I just wrote that recently for someone - probably me.

Word. 99% suffering for the 1% use case…

@cnoellert - story of the world my friend - spaceship ride anyone?

@finn - probably the most straightforward solution is to just keep a handy copy of init.cfg that works for your systems and copy that out via ansible or tmux or something post software update?

Maybe request that a new install inherits that VTR page settings from the last install?

I agree it’s a pain… I always have to change it after launching flame the first time and getting the warning and then quilting flame to go change it.

I did talk to Fred about that at NAB. Especially since there is no way to bulk change it in setup. You have to do it one resolution at a time.

@allklier - hey jan, it’s your init.cfg file so you can change it with a text editor, or simply replace it with a working version.

Good point. But still too much friction. Change the default.

I had this discussion with @Slabrie awhile ago. I made the exact same arguements… He can expound on the reasonings to keep as default this ancient legacy garbage.

Don’t forget 10-bit DPX as the default export!

doesnt it default to ALS  or something muscle memory for me is to just click on something else right away.

Oh come on GP, .cin, dpx is way too new!

You can submit Flame Feedback requests to have feature removes as well. Please do so.

Also, most may not have realized it, but it is possible to downvote a request if you do not agree with it.

and I will do just that

You would think the system would be able to identify an external sync source and set the configs accordingly. No external sync would default to freesync. And isn’t it not possible to connect external sync to flame on mac? If so, that right there should be reason to default to freesync.

Exactly. It’s smart enough to give you an error that there is no sync. So maybe the whole thing could be solved with one preference checkbox:

‘If no sync detected, fallback on freesync’

Default it to on, so no warning is shown. If you turn it off, it behaves as current (using the sync selected in setup or annoying you with a popup)

I agree. It could be a simpler fix than remove the option.
