Particles crashing Flame on Mac

Hi all,

I’ve been experiencing repeated crashes when R&Ding particles for a project. Is this a known feature? I’m running 2025.2.2 on a MacStudio M1 Ultra with 128GB RAM and 20 cores. OS is Sequoia 15.5. Storage is SSD on OWC Thunderbay Flex 8.

I’ve made a fresh 1920x1080 ACES 1.1 project and am using a Rec709 colour source as the generator.

I’ve been following @Sinan’ s YT playlist

Mainly looking at the first video. To my mind this shouldn’t be too taxing but the interaction is very slow and Flame crashes repeatedly. Any thoughts much appreciated.

Thanks @sinan, so kind of you to spend time discussing this with me.

In my opinion particles on a Mac are not that reliable. It causes crashes most of the time.

I recorded all the videos in the above link on my 2017 MBP. Particles are fiddly but you can tame them.
It’s like training a flea circus. You let them go and hope they get there.

He said flea circus, not “Flee! circus!”

It was basically that the number of particles generated per frame was too big. I showed some pathways to generate particles that would use a lower number of them.

So it wasn’t a solution to a single problem but getting a better idea of how the particles in Flame work as a system.

I’m usually on Discord, so if anyone has questions about particles ping me there. More than happy to help out.
