MONITORS (which ones do people like)

My neck hurts just looking at that man.

I think Alan pointed out that the 49” is only 1440 and that was the thing that kept me away when I was looking at it.

i’ve got a 4021QW and its currently set at 1024x2160 on the left and the right side is 4096x2160. I can work in Flame on the big side, and still keep email, service monitor and terminal windows visible on the left side.

works great - i cannot say what the 49" is like though.

I have a different Dell model that’s 49", and is 5120x1440. It’s essentially two 27" monitors side by side without physical seam. Had mine for a 18 months and love it. I don’t subdivide it for separate HDMI inputs, it’s just one big display on MacOS. In Flame you can work 3 up or 4 up very easily, and you get a nice long and readable timeline.

I run Parsec and VNC into other systems, like VNC into my dual head Linux Flame and they show up on the Mac as a single wide window. The Dell comes with a software that can snap windows into various screen divisions, if you want to do 50/50, just hold shift while moving a window and it will snap into position.

Flame on Mac with 49" 5120x1440 monitor.

3-up with batch node tree, action schematic, and viewer.

Or you can batch node tree, F4 in center, and Context in right.

Wow you guys have some cool looking curved monitors. I’m just looking for a non curved 32" :grinning:

I have a handful of the Dell 32inch 4K Ultrasharps. Love em.

Any specific model or just any of the ultrasharps?

I’m wondering… how’s the tablet mapping to that??

Just the same as if you have two monitors mapped side by side, which I had prior to that.

Definitely want a medium tablet. Also had a large Intuos for a while, though enjoying the new Xencelab medium at present.

Working with a tablet on that much real estate is easier than mouse. On one system I have used a Kensington trackball which has acceleration.

Most tablets have a precision mode which is like a dynamic loupe/roi area. Though I almost never use it.

Here are some monitors from CES2025 you might find interesting…

the 32" Ultrasharp is actual IPS-Black which is much better than a regular LCD panel.

EIZO have the same panel in their EV3240x

How is the color accuracy on the 27" Ultrasharps? I’m debating whether to get one (with a IPS-Black panel) or an used Eizo (CG276) that has built-in calibration.

none of these “office” monitors are any kind of accurate. Neither dell nor eizo EV series

the panels might be great, but they are all completely hampered by their own software.

The eizo CGs are on a different level and the price reflects that.

So they(dell) are are good as it gets for a office monitor with their sRGB profiles you get something ballpark nice but the only thing you can calibrate realistically is the whitepoint using rgb gain controlls, you are SOL when you want to really get into it for example want to set it to rec709 you are going to have to use external lut boxes and stuff. (software calibration basically always stinksh

Its not like its completly off but accuracy is not really their thing.

That said , IPS-Black is just nice , i dont know if asus proart has a ips-black option with nice controlls or not, but those at least have decent software.

Yeah, cool. Sounds like going the CG route would be ideal as the price is the same.

I have two Eizo CG27 as GUI monitors on my Linux Flame, next to an FSI. No complaints.

Hey all! I’m looking to get a 27" monitor for my home setup. Will be running Flame on Mac Studio once I get it.

I’ve narrowed it down to these two …

Dell UltraSharp 27 4K USB-C Hub - U2723QE
ASUS ProArt Display PA279CRV 27" 4K HDR

Any thoughts on either? Dell is nice with IPS-Black but I read some reviews saying reflections are a bit of an issue.
ASUS seems to be geared more towards video pros but that may be just marketing. And unless I’m reading it wrong it supports HDR while Dell does not.

Any advice is appreciated! Cheers, I.

I have the Dell U2723QE and have been happy with it. The screen is a bit reflective when the room is bright, but I usually keep my room pretty dark.

I like the Dell’s built in KVM to switch between my Linux and Mac (although I don’t use the Dell software, just the hardware connections.)…I switch inputs with a Streamdeck via the Lunar app.

Hi Igor,
Looking at the 32" option for the 2 screens you mentioned going on a Mac Studio aswell. Wondering if you have picked a monitor and what your initial thoughts are?
